Pastorale su “La Naissance de Notre Seigneur Jesus” H483 di M. A. Charpentier, for solos, choir and orchestra

Coherently with the principles that have inspired the foundation and the development of the Roma Festival Barocco, the 10th Edition of 2017, scheduled from the 19th of November to the 19th of December, will present a cycle of concerts and musicological gatherings in the locations of the Baroque Rome. An integration between music of the Italian tradition of the 16th-17th and 18th centuries, and the Nobles Palaces, Churches, Oratories and Libraries of the Eternal City, intact and well preserved, and so capable of transmitting the festive rituality and the concrete and immanent spirit of the great Italian baroque tradition to the contemporary society.

The agenda of 2017 provides unpublished works, performed by illustrious artists, known for their discographic production and international collaborations. The Festival will open with a precious preview: in the Cappela Paolina of the Palazzo del Quirinale, live on RAI Radio3, on the 19th of November at 12 am, the Mass a 8 vv. “Sopra l’Aria della Monica” by Girolamo Frescobaldi, will be performed by the Ensemble Festina Lente, conducted by Michele Gasbarro. Starting from an invaluable manuscript, belonging to the Cathedral of San Giovanni in Laterano, the performance will meticulously follow the liturgical ceremony of the 17th century.

A rich calendar will follow: 19 concerts with the execution of the unpublished Cantate from G. B. Lulier, the Masses for double choir by G. P. da Palestrina, performed according to the edition of 1601, the unpublished Sonate by C. Mannelli, Cantate by F. Gasperini, F. Surante, M. Bisso and the participation of big instrumental ensemble and international soloists, such as Enrico Baiano, Francesca Boncompagni, Federico Guglielmo, Luc Ponet e l’Ensemble Emelthée, Sonia Prina ed Enrico Onofri, Lorenzo Ghielmi.

The event, supported by the General Management of Live Performances of Mibact, Regione Lazio, Comune di Roma, Embassy of France at the Holy See and the Centre Culturel “Saint Louis de France”, this year reinforces its bond with the International Festival “Magie Barocche” in Catania, with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, the Centre of Studies on the Cantata Italiana and the Institute for the History of Music and the DHI – Deutsches Historisches Institut in Rome.

And lastly the Italian Baroque Orchestra is supported by the Ministry of the University and Scientific Research.

Thanks to this partnership the Festival aims to be not only the place where there can be ritually enjoyed Baroque Music, but also a common laboratory of an anthropological history, that never stops in surprising for its capability to include and to match the differences in our society.
